THE recent emphasis on tourism by president, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, has resulted in a rejuvenation of the country’s marketing efforts and infrastructure development.
So far, these efforts seem to be paying off: In the first half of the year, arrivals reached 1,285,762, a 10.4 per cent increase over last year. T
he Department of Tourism (DoT) has endorsed 22 projects for incentive and clearance grants including the US$60 million Imperial Palace Waterpark Resort and Spa in Cebu and a US$10 million 18-hole championship golf course in Angeles City, Pampanga. Airports are being built in Albay, Balabac, Bohol, Iloilo and Kabankalan in Palawan. Those in Busuanga, Guiuan, Puerto Princesa, San Vicente, Siargao and Tacloban are being upgraded.
