SINGAPORE - Change or be squeezed out

STB deputy CEO- International Operations, Mr Quek Swee Kuan, in an interview following an STB industry conference last week, said the message that agents would have to change their business strategy – ie, come up with the right packaging to target the right customer segment – was not blatantly pushed, “however, hopefully they are smart to hear the message and even if they don’t listen, the market forces will tell them”.

He said: “There are those who don’t want to go high-yield, and will continue with the mass market to the extent they can get rooms at the rate the customers are prepared to pay. But the reality is, with the increase in prices, they would have to target different market segments. They run businesses; they will know how to address these changes.”
