The Penang state planning committee (SPC) has given the green light to developers and investors of tourism related projects to start work immediately upon obtaining planning permission from the local government.
State tourism development committee chairman Teng Chang Yeow said developers of such projects, which include hotels, motels and theme parks, could now fast track their work before submitting their building plans to the local authorities.
“Sometimes, the process of obtaining the building plans may take up to 12 months.
“This policy has been approved by the SPC last week and they are now working on fine tuning the definition of tourism related products,” he said.
