VIETNAM - Con Co Island sees potential for eco-tourism development

With its beautiful natural scenery and several historical sites, Con Co Island off the central province of Quang Tri has great potential for developing maritime eco-tourism and cultural tourism.

Covering 2.5 sq.km and 28 km far from the coast, the Con Co Island has a diversified ecological system and 73 percent of its area are forests. It also houses wonderful beaches with white sand and warm water for swimming.

Experts said that the sea water surrounding Con Co Island is favoured by nature with a maritime biodiversity. It is home to 109 species of corals, including rare red and black corals, and various species of high-value sea products.

Abelardo Perez Ayllon, an expert from the Planning Institute of Cuba who has helped Quang Tri work out a master plan to develop tourism in Con Co, believed that the island will become a "pearl" in the central sea.
